The show’s guests include everyday people that have gained international attention for the positive environmental impact they have made. Based on survey results a list of over one hundred guests was determined and eight of those individuals were interviewed prior to the Septemlaunch of the podcast. To ensure that A Sustainable Mind is serving the needs of its target audience, increasing their knowledge and participation in personal sustainability, a survey was created to inform the selection of guests and the questions they were asked. In this setting earth-conscious individuals may be more apt to try out new ecological activities or add elements to their already eco-friendly lifestyle. Regular content is published through the A Sustainable Mind podcast, audio-only episodes available online, and a discussion group is growing with the participation of regular listeners. This is reflected in the podcast’s signature phrase, “Alone we can impact a few but together we can change the world.” A Sustainable Mind is a seed from which an inclusive community of like-minded individuals is growing, offering education and a safe-space to discuss and practice personal sustainability. The goal is to increase support and spread awareness and actions for sustainability. The project seeks to forge stronger relationships between experts - highly skilled and dedicated individuals within the area of environmental sustainability - and the podcast’s target audience - everyday people who desire positive environmental change but lack the resources to accomplish it.

If you are super keen to see a preview of the book before it's released, head over to the Kids Can Press website and click the "Google Preview" button under the book cover.Category : Communication in the environmental sciencesĪ Sustainable Mind was born out of a desire to strengthen communication within the environmental movement. Overall, this is a great cross-curricular resource to have as a teacher resource to help inform your planning but also as a student resource. My kids particularly liked doing the experiment of A Sweet Deal(page 25) to measure the perimeters with string and lining them up shortest to biggest (my kids are on the younger side so I modified it to suit) and also making tessellating patterns with the three provided (we used some fantastic wooden pattern blocks for this from the Toy Playhouse). The instructions are provided with written text and accompanying illustrations making them easy to follow and replicate. The little experiments are great for children to practise a concept to see exactly the why and the how behind the thinking - because let's face it, we can read all we like, but it sticks in our brains much more if we do as well.
